Nature Communications publishes our work on the photonic architecture of a mollusk.

The paper “A highly conspicuous mineralized composite photonic architecture in the translucent shell of the blue-rayed limpet” describes the photonic structures that lie at the origin on the bright blue colors in the translucent calcified shell of the blue-rayed limpet Patella pellucida. This work results from a collaboration with the groups of Joanna Aizenberg at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Christine Ortiz at the MIT Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
